THX Certification

Tomlinson Holman created THX (Tomlinson Holman Experiment) while working with Lucasfilm studio. The idea was to develop a standard for audio reproduction that ensured quality and consistency across all theater systems. 

Today, THX certification for speakers and surround sound systems means that they have passed rigorous performance standards. THX certification not only indicates that the speakers produce sound precisely as the audio engineer intended, but also a level of performance, such as suitability for large theaters. THX Certified surround sound is the ultimate in sound reproduction for home theater enthusiasts and professionals in the industry. 

M&K Sound’s THX Certified Speakers and Subwoofers

M&K Sound produces several series of speakers designed specifically for home theaters and professional sound engineers. Their THX-certified products bring the recording studio to your home, hearing the music and movies as if you were in the same room as the sound engineers. 

Their S150 speakers are easily recognizable with their three tweeters and two drivers. They also deliver incredible dynamics and have been adopted by all the major film studios at one time or another for monitoring, mastering, and editing audio. First, we install them to the left, center, right, side, and back, surrounding the listener in a dome of sound. Then we install their latest in-ceiling speakers for the ultimate in Dolby Atmos immersive surround sound. 

Their top-of-the-line S300 system offers heavier rear speakers, increasing the sound pressure and enhancing the pin-point placement of rear channel events, such as special effects, airplanes flying over, voices, and music. In addition, the S300T Tri-pole speakers house two 4" drivers that provide the optimal surround coverage, rivaling the immense sound field in premier cinemas.

In December 2021, M&K Sounds announced the addition of three THX Certified subwoofers, the X15+, X12+, and the X10+. These subwoofers were designed with today’s professional home theaters in mind and offer the deep bass that delivers the full, rich, three-dimensional effect so crucial to movie soundtracks. Each contains the company's signature push-pull driver configuration and redesigned woofers with 30% larger voice coils and magnets. You’ll feel the seat-shaking rumbles M&K Sound is so well known for.
