M&K speakers and subwoofers are some of the best on the market. In fact, musicians, directors, and engineers from around the world use them in film, music, and studio production. A few of the industry leaders you’re probably familiar with include Warner Bros, Universal, DreamWorks, Lucas Film, Sony Music, THX, and Disney—just a few of the world’s finest filmmakers and audio experts that turn to M&K Sound.
Let's explore how this audio brand elevates sound in homes in Salt Lake City, UT, and the surrounding areas.
The History of Incredible Sound
M&K Sound began almost 50 years ago, in 1973. It was then that Walter Becker of Steely Dan charged Ken Kreisel, a recording engineer, and Jonas Miller, owner of the world’s first high-end audio salon, with the task of designing a studio reference subwoofer and monitoring system.
The world’s first dual-drive subwoofer was born, and Pretzel Logic skyrocketed the Steely Dan duo into fame, making the list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine.
The following year, Miller and Kreisel founded M&K Sound in Beverly Hills, CA, and the rest is history.
The Company’s Achievements
They invented the modern-day satellite-subwoofer system, the world’s first self-powered subwoofer, and the Satellite-Volkswoofer System—their premier professional studio monitor speaker system.
Kreisel was also at the forefront of home theater creations. He used his talents to build professional screening rooms for producers and directors and then modified his learned experience to create this same environment in the first home theaters.
Some of the continued “firsts” in the industry include the first push-pull dual-driver powered subwoofer, the first compact high-performance subwoofer, and the first THX-approved single-cabinet subwoofer. Then, in the mid-1990s, Dolby Laboratories designed the Dolby Digital format using M&K THX certified speakers.
Surround sound technology emerged, and theaters have never been the same.
Many movies that won academy awards for sound were mixed and edited on M&K Sound speakers. A few of the many include Lord of the Rings, Wall-E, Pearl Harbor, Chicago, The Incredibles, and Pirates of the Caribbean—The Curse of the Black Pearl. Their claim to fame also includes producing the speakers that created the soundtrack for several Star Wars episodes.

The Home Environment
M&K Sound established itself as the creator of some of the finest subwoofers and loudspeakers for music, film, and home theaters. Home theaters developed into the remarkable spaces they are today thanks, in large part, to M&K Sound.
Whether a movie soundtrack or music, the sound that emerges is as the creator intended, transporting the listener to the original acoustic event with no distortion, addition, or loss. This is the pure reproduction of sound, designed to let you hear the performance just as the recording engineers heard it for the first time.
